10 Infuriating TV Characters We Couldn't Decide To Love Or Hate

2. Pete Campbell - Mad Men

Feelings about Pete Campbell are generally accepted to be extremely volatile. He's one of guys at the office who in real life you can only tolerate because of how competent they are, while ignoring the affable guy everyone likes who accidentally glues his hands to his desk. But on television it's a totally different story, because his smug, ambitious, totally square personality has a way of going full circle where he's so unlikeable that you actually kind of start to like the guy. He has some of the show's greatest lines (can we please bring back "Hell's bells!" as an acceptable exclamation?) and whenever he's around he brings a whirlwind of drama along with him. He's never satisfied with where he is -- even when he's just been promoted he's trying to figure out how to make his next jump up the ladder. Bottom line, Pete brings a more consistent entertainment value than almost anyone on the show, and though he's such a little rodent, you can't help but love him. Plus, if there was no Pete, we never would have gotten the legendary scene where Lane showed him how they do things in England (with a gentleman's fight).
