Tom MacRae's televised Doctor Who contributions are a mixed bag. On the one hand, he penned the decent Cybermen two-parter from Series 2, and on the other, he wrote the terrific Series 6 story The Girl Who Waited. As a result, it's hard to know if he really does have that "special sauce", or if he just got lucky with his second (and final) story.

With that in mind, it's a real shame that we never got to see Century House, which could've provided us with a definitive answer.

Another story intended for Series 4, this ghostly tale was set to follow the Doctor as he appears in an episode of Most Haunted, a show that investigates reported cases of paranormal activity. The location was going to be a creepy old house haunted by a spectre called the Red Widow, with Donna watching the episode at home.

This means that Donna wouldn't have been involved in the episode very much, making Century House a "companion-lite" script, and so, when this story was dropped by showrunner Russell T Davies (who was unsatisfied with the concept), it was replaced with another companion-lite episode, the acclaimed Midnight.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
