7. Riley Flynn - Midnight Mass
Midnight Mass is another masterfully artful horror series from the great Mike Flanagan, and one which features one of the most unforgettable death scenes from any recent TV show, horror or not.
The series' protagonist, Riley Flynn (Zach Gilford), returns to his hometown of Crockett Island just as a vampire arrives there and starts infecting the locals.
At the end of the fourth episode, poor Riley is attacked by the vampire and turned, and in an attempt to convince his love interest Erin (Kate Siegel) of what's going on, he decides to make the ultimate sacrifice.
In episode five Riley sails out onto the lake with Erin, and as the sun rises, Riley violently bursts into flames, combusting into a pile of ash while Erin understandably screams in traumatised horror.
While there might've been a less-drastic way for Riley to prove the vampiric plague to Erin, he had to be absolutely sure she'd take him seriously, and this sacrificial act sure as hell clinched it.
At once intensely disturbing and expertly executed, Riley's demise was both Midnight Mass' most insane and emotionally devastating moment.
