10 Most Insane Storylines In Doctor Who

1. The Time Of The Doctor

If you thought that the last two finales were overwritten and difficult to follow, then prepare yourselves. The third of three increasingly high concept specials in 2013, €˜The Time Of The Doctor€™ sees the 11th Doctor bow out in favour of Peter Capaldi€™s 12th Doctor, and a whole bunch of other stuff happen. Harking back to previous unresolved plot threads from all of the 11th Doctor€™s previous episodes (because Steven Moffat likes to play with our brains), we see thousands of alien races hovering over a nondescript planet, ready to do alien violence to it because of the message being broadcast from its surface. The Doctor discovers this situation, and travels to the surface, where he finds that the signal is coming from a town where it is always Christmas. The signal itself is revealed to be in Gallifreyan, simply asking€ €œDoctor Who?€ When he realises that the answer is his own name, the Doctor twigs €“ the signal is from the Time Lords, safe from the destruction of the Time War after his intervention in The Day Of The Doctor, and asking the only Time Lord left outside their pocket universe whether it€™s safe to pop out. All he has to do is say his own name, and the Time Lords will return€ to face the combined might of all those alien death rays and such orbiting the planet. The Doctor chooses to stay and defend the planet against the massed aliens, knowing that they can€™t force him to leave as he could speak his name and let the Time Lords through. At this point €“ you guessed it €“ things get complicated. Again, isn€™t this supposed to be a children€™s TV show?
