10 Insane Ways TV Shows Trolled Fans

8. The Bizarre Closed Captions - Stranger Things

Here's a delightfully odd piece of trolling that nobody could've ever seen coming in the recent fourth season of Stranger Things.

Fans who watched the season with closed captioned subtitles were in for an icky treat, given some of the uncommonly... descriptive text for what was being shown and heard on screen.

For instance, as the series' villain Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) writhes around with his tentacles, the captions read [tentacles squelching wetly], while other examples include [tentacles undulating moistly], [eldritch thrumming], and so on. You get the idea.

The unconventionally flowery captions mystified many viewers, enough that screengrabs of them ended up quickly going viral on social media.

Netflix responded by interviewing the individuals responsible for the captions, who evidently had a lot of fun coming up with them, even if they maintain that they're primarily an accessibility feature rather than something purely intended to make folk laugh.

All the same, they certainly provided some unexpected amusement for many who bothered to switch them on.
