10 Instantly Addictive TV Show Opening Credits

7. Angel - Singing The Cello Blues

Fresh Prince Of Bel Air
Mutant Enemy Productions

Following fresh of the success of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel sought to tell a more gritty story with a darker protagonist. A formerly evil vampire turned private detective for the good of humanity, they needed a theme to draw a separating line between the more light hearted "Scooby Gang" of Sunnydale High.

Moody, haunting and so 90s it asked Vanilla Ice for advice on its frosted tips, the beautifully orchestrated instrumentals immediately let you know what kind of story Whedon wants to tell. Buffy's theme is energetic and modern; Angel's is sorrowful and classic, as befitting his dark past.

You know instantly Angel is a break from Buffy's story line, and that it has a more adult tone, all before the first episode even plays. Plus it's just plain addictive, if only more television series were bold enough to use cello's for their theme instrumentals.
