Executive producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss liked to joke around during the making of Game of Thrones. They even wrote fake scripts to trick cast members into thinking their character was going to die.

One of their best pranks involved John Bradley, the actor who played Jon Snow’s lovable companion, Samwell Tarly. When Bradley received the script for the sixth episode of the sixth season, he read about the outfit he’d have to wear when his character returns to the family home in Horn Hill:

“It says in the script: Sam is now resplendent in a bright purple frock coat, pink tights, pink slip-on shoes, and a pink box hat.”

Bradley had no idea this description was a joke – he just assumed his character dressed like this whilst he was at home. The producers took the prank even further by sending Bradley for a fitting in Belfast, where he was forced to wear this ludicrous outfit.

Thankfully, he was eventually told about the prank and was allowed to wear Sam’s normal clothing when he arrived on set.
