10 Massive Stargate Plot Holes

4. They Don't Build Them Like They Used To

Stargate George Hammond

Stargate Universe was the second live-action spin off series from Stargate SG-1. The opening episode depicts the Icarus expedition getting stranded on the Destiny, thanks to a surprise attack by the Lucian Alliance. While experiments with the ninth chevron on the Gate were underway on the planet, the George Hammond, a Deadalus-class vessel, patrolled in orbit.

Deadalus class vessels had appeared in both SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, with the Deadalus, Odyssey and Apollo all featuring heavily as the shows went along. They were all depicted as heavily armed and shielded, capable of going up against most threats. In fact, the Odyssey, when equipped with Asgard weapons, was able to destroy an Ori Mothership, which to that point had been one of the most devastatingly powerful threats that the SGC had ever faced.

So, when the Lucian Alliance, piloting Go'uld Ha'tak vessels, arrive and attack the George Hammond, it should have taken Colonel Samantha Carter all of about ten seconds to get the upper hand and destroy the attackers. Instead, they are able to flank the ship, attack the planet and cause significant damage.

It seems as though the George Hammond was not operating with full-power in this episode, as it should have easily overpowered the Lucian Alliance. However, for the sake of expediance, they seem to have been added simply to force the expedition through the Gate!
