Netflix has made a rather lucrative habit out of taking a much-loved IP and spinning it into a can't-miss slice of TV fun that simply cannot be missed. But for every The Witcher and Marvel superhero ride, there's sadly another example of when things didn't actually take off in the way the streaming giant would've hoped.

Look no further than 2021's attempt to give much-loved anime series Cowboy Bebop the live action treatment for an example of counting your silver screen chickens before they've hatched.

With the sheer success of that aforementioned 1998 and hype surrounding the Netflix spin on the formula, it came as little surprise to hear that writer Christopher Yost had reportedly already begun planning Season 2 before the first batch of episodes had even landed on our screens.

However, with that first outing ultimately not exactly setting the world on fire, its writing, action sequences, and special effects all coming under fire, the show that reportedly cost a similar amount as Altered Carbon - meaning around $6 - 7 million per-episode - was emphatically canned a mere month after its first season arrived on the scene.
