10 Massive TV Shows Nobody Is Watching
9. American Gods
Starz' ambitious fantasy drama by the name of American Gods, adapted from Neil Gaiman's 2001 titular novel, experienced quite a dramatic life over the course of its four years of existence... both in front of and behind the camera.
Bringing in titans such as Ian McShane and Gillian Anderson to do some of the on-screen heavy-lifting and the sort of slo-mo visuals that give Zack Snyder a hard-on meant that Season 1 went massively over budget - by $30 million, in fact.
Sure enough, said over-splashing ultimately led to the series' showrunners, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, being cut loose before Season 2.
And the drama only grew whilst creating said follow-up season, with the hiring and firing of Jesse Alexander as showrunner likely being the response to a number of the episodes being classed as looking "cheap" by Starz before the show underwent some serious reworking.
Whilst acclaimed and anticipated for a time, American Gods ultimately bit the dust last year after Season 3 brought in a frankly terrible 200,000 or less viewers per episode, making the sheer amount of moola and time pumped into the venture look like a largely disappointing waste.
