10 Mind-Blowing Battlestar Galactica Facts You Didn't Know

7. Edward James Olmos Said No Aliens

Battlestar Galactica Adama

Commander/Admiral Adama is not Captain Kirk. He is a hard-boiled, weather beaten man who would eat Captain Kirk for breakfast. If he was so inclined.

Edward James Olmos was approached for the role and he accepted, with a condition. He was not a massive fan of science-fiction, feeling that he had already done what he needed to do in the genre back in Blade Runner. So, he had it written into his contract that the show was to avoid clichés.

'The first four-eyed alien I see,' he said, 'I'm going to faint in front of the camera, and you'll have to write me out of the show.'

Battlestar Galactica drew huge acclaim for its gritty realism in its approach to telling stories and so, if this is in part thanks to Olmos's insistence not to get silly, then we owe him a large debt of thanks!
