8. Abed May Be Based On A Real Person Called Abed

When auditions took place for the role, Abed Gheith, saw the character as a "kid-like" version of himself with less social awareness and so couldn't pass up the opportunity to play him in the series.

Though he ultimately lost to Danny Pudi, there is speculation the the character was based on Gheith, who acted and wrote in shows for Channel 101, another of Harmon's creations.
