10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About '90s Superman Cartoon
1. Superman Team-Ups
From a story standpoint, STAS couldn't have been more straightforward. But the initial idea was very different since the writers originally considered making the series a team-up show. Every episode would have the Kryptonian allying with a member of the Justice League.
Bruce Timm was so adamant on this idea, he drew up sketches for many characters who were meant to appear in the series including Orion, Lightray, The Question, Black Lightning, Mister Miracle, Blue Beetle, and Vixen. This decision would allow the show to have a bigger choice of villains, having Superman battle foes like Star Sapphire, Captain Cold, Sivana, and Clayface.
This idea was abandoned because the producers were concerned the barrage of cameos would overshadow Superman. Even after this concept was axed though, Timm still tried to have episodes where Superman teamed up with Wonder Woman and Shazam (who was called Captain Marvel at the time), to help set up the Justice League cartoon.
These plans sadly fizzled out, but the series did have time for Supes to team up with Batman, Doctor Fate, the Flash and Green Lantern.
