10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Babylon 5

7. Alfred Bester Was Named After A Real Person

Walter Koenig's scheming Psi Cop character was not named at random. He was actually named in honor of the noted science fiction author Alfred Bester. The real Bester, as it happens, wrote a story called The Demolition Man, and it was set in a world with telepathic police officers. This story served as the inspiration for the telepathic organization known as the PsiCorps in Babylon 5.

Bester was also good friends with another famous science fiction writer--Harlan Ellison, who worked as a conceptual consultant on Babylon 5. Between Bester's work with telepathic police officers and his friendship with Ellison, naming a member of the PsiCorps after him was the perfect way to pay homage to his legacy.
