10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Mad Men
5. Glen Bishop Had A Behind The Scenes Connection
The Draper's weird neighbour Glen was imbedded into the storylines of the Draper ladies throughout the run of Mad Men. His strange infatuation with Betty led to some awkward scenes at the beginning of the show but also served as a looking glass into Betty's more childlike ways. The relationship shed light on the vulnerable side of Betty Draper and the scene in which she cries by the car when Glen offers his hand to her broke audience's hearts around the world.
As the show progressed and the child characters grew up, Glen developed a relationship with Betty's daughter Sally. Although at first it seemed the two would progress to a romantic relationship, which sent Betty into a jealous rage, over time you saw that their friendship was more familial. Glen repeatedly refers to her as being "like a little sister" and Sally never seemed to mind the way their relationship turned out.
Overall, Glen actually had a big impact on the show, and his ending even served as an insight into the effect the war had on young boys during the 60s, leaving Glen to go out on a sombre note. With such an important supporting role being left on the shoulders of a little boy, it's not surprising to find out that the actor that plays Glen is actually the son of the shows creator! Marten Holden Weiner was only 10 years old when his dad got him the role and like the other child actors we watched him grow up on our screens.
