10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Mad Men
4. Freddy Rumsen Has A Hollywood Connection
There are many copy writers and creatives that come and go throughout the run of Mad Men, but considering the company changes hands over and over again, it's not really that surprising. Some of the creatives last longer than others, like Peggy and Don who manage to stay the course of the entire show, while others barely last a season, and there are some that manage to make their way back to the show on multiple occasions.
The latter applies to senior copywriter Freddy Rumsen (Joel Murray), Freddy begins the show having worked for Sterling Cooper for a long time. His first leave of absence comes when he urinates in his trousers at work while extremely drunk; to the disgust of Pete Campbell and the pity of Peggy. Don and company let Rumsen go from the company with the promise that he could return when he got clean.
Freddy returns to the show a year after Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce is formed, where he works on an account that he refuses to let Pete Campbell work on. It is during this time where we see Peggy's transformation as she butts heads with Freddy as she is now a confident copy writer also.
Freddy has a dark storyline, but he also has a brilliant sense of humour and brings a lot of comedic timing to the show. Well it seems humour runs through the actor's veins as his brother is none other than famous comedian Bill Murray!
If you look close enough you can see the family resemblance; both men have the same boyish smile.
