10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Smallville

6. Jensen Ackles Was The Second Choice For Clark

Jensen Ackles is these days synonymous with Supernatural, yet the star's pre-Supernatural days saw him have a memorable one-season stint in Smallville as Jason Teague during the show's fourth year.

While it's not exactly a major revelation to say that Jensen Ackles was in Smallville, what's less known is the fact that he - much like Brandon Routh - was at one point in the mix to play Clark Kent. But not just that, for Ackles was reportedly the second choice to play CK.

By all accounts, Tom Welling was a little unsure of even auditioning for the Clark role, let alone committing to playing the character. And if Welling had opted to pass on playing this iteration of Kal-El, the minds behind Smallville had Jensen Ackles lined up as their second choice to play Clark.

Interestingly, Eric Johnson was another name who was under consideration to play Clark Kent. Not just that, but Johnson had also auditioned for the role of Lex Luthor. While he wasn't successful in landing either of those major parts, Johnson would end up playing Lana Lang's boyfriend Whitney Fordman in Smallville's debut season.
