10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Smallville

3. The Reason Why Margot Kidder Quit

For longtime fans of the Superman mythos, Smallville often put a major smile on the face by how it brought in certain names previously associated with the larger world of Superman.

Two such examples are Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, who portrayed Dr. Virgil Swann and his assistant Bridgette Crosby. Of course, the pair had previously played Superman and Lois Lane in the four-movie Man of Steel franchise that ran from 1978 to 1987.

At one point in time, the plan was for Kidder's Crosby to step up and become one of the main villains of Smallville's Season Four. Instead though, the actress quit after just two on-screen appearances.

The reason for Kidder's decision to walk away from Smallvile came after the tragic death of Christopher Reeve at the age of just 52. Following Reeve's passing, Smallville producers decided to kill off the Dr. Swann character. For Kidder, she thought that this was tasteless and only serving to try and benefit from the loss of Christopher Reeve - and thus, Margot quit the show in disgust at this decision.

As a result of this, the Bridgette Crosby character was quietly killed off off-screen.
