10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Static Shock

8. The Show Was Never Intended To Be Part Of The DCAU

Like the comic that inspired it, Static Shock's first season had no connection to the greater DC universe, and the plan was to keep to only characters who came from the Milestone comics line.

Starting in its second season, however, Warner Bros. decided that the property was too popular not to take advantage of, and that it was a natural fit with other DCAU shows and characters. Instead of creating a story about parallel universes or time travel to introduce elements of the DCAU, Static Shock was simply retconned to be in the same universe.

The crossovers started with Batman and Robin, at the beginning of Season 2. Ultimately, over the next three seasons the show would include appearances from the Justice League as a team, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Superman, Green Lantern, and Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond). The producers did an excellent job of using these well-established characters, naturally complementing Static as a character and hero in the storylines.

On the flip side of the crossover coin, episodes of Justice League Unlimited set in the future show Static as an older, but still very powerful hero who is a core part of the Justice League that will be.
