The Simpsons is famously Matt Groening’s first hit TV show, to be followed by Futurama and Disenchantment. However, even before the family came to Springfield on the Tracey Ullman show, Groening found success with his 'Life in Hell' comic strip.

Based around the lives of anthropomorphic bunnies, not dissimilar to those seen in ‘Fuzzy Bunny’s Guide To You Know What’ in 'Bart's Friend Falls In Love', this work clearly had an influence on the early designs of The Simpsons, though one idea was ultimately scrapped.

The reason Marge originally wore her hair so tall was to hide the fact that she had bunny ears just like the characters out of Life in Hell. In fact, Groening’s original idea to end the series was to reveal Marge as one of the rabbits in something of a crossover between the two platforms.

Though this was ultimately never revealed or pursued any further throughout the show, there were several occasions those playing The Simpsons Arcade Game way back when could have had a sneak peak under Marge’s hair and seen the giant bunny ears it was hiding. No one knows quite how The Simpsons will eventually end, but hopefully it won't be like this.
