8. Sue Sylvester - Glee
If you watched the massive super-hit Glee at the very beginning compared to now, you might be surprised at how far the Sue Sylvester character has come. When the show started, she was really supposed to just be a one joke character. Sue's the angry, tough cheerleading coach who loves to make everyone else's lives miserable. And to be fair, there is still an element of that to her, but she has evolved tremendously over the years. After the show began to be successful and Sue became one of the most popular characters, they developed her character beyond just the generic antagonist. They added depth to the prickly coach -- gave her a back story and make her a lot more likeable. She might be tough, but she's not totally heartless. Her relationship with Becky, a special needs student at the school, adds a totally different dimension to her character. We see her advocate for students in her own way, while still maintaining her trademark sense of humor. Today, Sue is one of the biggest adult leads on the show, and without question one of the most popular. Considering that she wasn't even included in the early drafts of the script, I'd say she should be pretty proud of herself.
