10 Mismatched TV Theme Tunes That Are Just The Worst

1. Star Trek: Enterprise

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBcXXfzrqco Think of science fiction scores, and you might imagine sweeping orchestral movements, horns blaring in the background, strings soaring; perhaps Doctor Who synths whirring or the Star Trek glockenspiels tinkling along. Star Trek: Enterprise however took the bizarre step of choosing a bland pop song for its theme tune. 'Faith of the Heart' by tenor Russell Watson (singing with more of a pop voice), is a Westlife-like, mish-mashed mess that recalls naff wedding discos and mimed Top of the Pops performances; probably the first song that comes to mind when listening to it, is 'Stay Another Day' by East 17. It's overly cheesy lyrically, it rises predictably and it focusses on the power you have within yourself; it may have been a bold choice not to go for a conventional sci-fi theme, but choosing this isn't exactly groundbreaking is it? That's where the main issue lies: Star Trek should always sound groundbreaking. The show's noble, ambitious and exciting dream to travel to faraway lands is juxtaposed with the most safe, middle-of-the-road of ballads, that feels like it would be better placed on the X Factor; it totally detracts from the rest of the show. It's such a poor song choice that genuinely sounds like a joke. I mean, would you believe it if I told you J. J. Abrams was using this in the next Star Trek film? Which TV themes do you hate? Which ones really don't suit the show they're on? Comment below!
