10 Mismatched TV Theme Tunes That Are Just The Worst

9. NCIS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NlDMLRDZUE While Crime Scene Investigation might remind you of driving across sun-kissed roads, the wind in your hair, shades over your eyes, looking impossibly cool, the similarly-titled NCIS conjures up a very different image. CSI went for The Who to introduce their show, but NCIS employed producer Numeriklab to write their theme tune. Melding all the best things about Apollo 440, Darude and 9AM into one theme song, the NCIS theme is more reminiscent of Dutch eurodance, all those sweaty clubs that you went to in your youth and one-hit wonder dance acts. It has a cheap, grimey bassline, a thoughtless keyboard motif and a few lousy synth-pads for atmospherics; it's the dance music you forgot in favour of remembering the Chemical Brothers and Faithless. So what exactly has it got to do with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service? The show, which focusses on a team of special agents, does often take on dark themes. The closest the theme tune can relate to that is through recreational drug abuse; it's one of the weirder theme songs for a police show, and it's no wonder it never caught on. Could you imagine The Bill returning with The Crystal Method providing a remixed theme song?
