10 Moments When The Simpsons Went Too Far

6. Homer The Suicide Bomber - A Tale Of Two Springfields (2000)

Homer is a bit dense; we all know that, and the very nature of that particular personality trait has driven pretty much every episode of the show in one way or another since its inception. Still, there has to be a limit to his madness (and idiocy) if some degree of logic is to remain in the series. A Tale of Two Springfields, an episode from 2000, successfully transitions Homer Simpson from loveable oaf to demented madman (not in a good way). Which is another way of saying that, in this particularly awful excuse for 22 minutes of television, Homer gets so angry that the town's dialling code gets changed that he straps explosives to himself and threatens to blow up Springfield and its inhabitants during a town meeting. It was at this point, then, that Homer - as a character - became a parody of himself, doing things that - seasons ago - he would never have dreamed of. Such a shame.
