10 More Animes You Must Watch Before You Die
7. Akame Ga Kill!
Speaking of action-heavy shonens, Akame ga KIll! is a great one for new and old fans to start with. On the surface, it might seem like a stereotypical shonen, filled with sword-wielding protgaonists who must defeat whatever evil is coming their way. However, to dimiss the show filled with bloody battles and very little character development would be doing it a massive disservice.
The fighting will certainly take centre stage of this show and there's a very good reason for it.
You're left thinking that the show's director, Tomoki Kobayashi, has a particular soft spot for Mortal Kombat because some of the finishing moments of these fights wouldn't go amiss in any iteration of the famously violent beat 'em up.
Kobayashi and the show's studio, White Fox, managed to make every single scrap on the show feel unique to the characters involved and the moment they were in, making for some of the most memorable fight scenes you'll ever see.
Although Akame Ga Kill! would suffice as a fun, yet brainless action show, it's just as entertaining when it gives the audience the back stories on the motley crew of assassins called Night Raid as they try to overthrow a corrupt government. Each character has their own moment to shine during its twenty four episode run, making it a throughly enjoyable watch for all shonen fans.
