The Battle Of The Binary Stars had a tall order to fulfil. It had to introduce a new audience, and a returning one, to Star Trek: Discovery, while also capturing the new look and feel of the franchise. Though the efficacy of the attempt will surely be debated among certain corners of the internet for years to come, no one can deny that it was a BIG start.

The episode, with its predecessor The Vulcan Hello, gave us twelve new Starfleet ships, with equally as many new Klingon ships. It was a grand scale battle, with a decisive victory for the Klingons. This kick-started the Klingon-Federation War and kick-started a thousand discussions on this new dark take on Trek.

The battle was intended to be a feast for the eyes and for the most part, it was. There was a glow, emanating from a nearby phenomena, that made some of the action a little hard to make out. Saying that, the carnage was on a scale rarely seen in Star Trek, leaving a cold feeling of dread on the viewer as even our opening hero ship fell to the enemy combatants.
