3. Future Sarah - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Thanks to numerous different timelines and time travel elements, the Terminator canon is all over the place. On its own small branch, following on from Terminator 2: Judgment Day while completely ignoring Rise of the Machines, is The Sarah Connor Chronicles which created its own popular narrative.

As per typical franchise premises, after Sarah and John Connor (Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker) delayed Judgment Day in T2, Skynet still sent more Terminators back in time to target the young John and to stop him from leading the human revolt in the future. However, in the season two finale, it's John who does the time travelling.

In jumping to a post-Judgment Day future, Sarah's son realises that, thanks to his absence from the past, he no longer leads the revolution in the future, and no one there knows who he is. An awesome cliffhanger that could never be followed up on thanks to the show's cancellation.

Thomas Dekker, though, has given some idea of what season three would have looked like, in that it's likely he would have found an older version of his mom who survived Judgment Day. So it seems that John would have stuck around in the future, and instead of leading the revolution himself, would have worked together with Sarah on a different timeline. Essentially, more of the Connors fighting Skynet.
