10 MORE Notorious Star Trek Urban Legends

6. Ricardo Montalban Wore A Fake Chest

Star Trek Wrath Of Khan
CBS

Khan was imposing enough during his first outing all the way back in Space Seed. This was dialled up to eleven when the character returned in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. As soon as he revealed what was underneath all of those coverings, many pairs of eyes bulged and almost popped out of their sockets. Ricardo Montalban clearly had not skimped on the exercise regime on Ceti Alpha V.

There were those then who began to cry foul, saying that there was no way the man could sculpt a chest like that. This of course led to the greatest myth about the film, that Montalban wore a chest plate while filming his scenes. However, not true at all. He worked out religiously to prepare for the role and the results are there for everyone to see.

For his part, the actor was good-natured about peoples' assertions that he was wearing a suit. Well that he was, as he instantly rose to the greatest Trek villain of them all, making him one of the most popular guest stars to ever grace the franchise.
