10 More Overlooked Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Are Secretly Classics

4. Selfless (Season 7, Episode 5)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Throughout the course of the series, we were given slithers of information about Anya's past. Her time as a cold-hearted vengeance demon was often referenced in graphic detail, but it wasn't until this season seven episode where we actually got to see the full extent of her abilities.

Returning to her old job after being spurned at their wedding by Xander, Anya soon found that her more human characteristics were standing in the way of her ability to unleash vengeance upon those who deserved it - and through a series of flashbacks, we get a detailed picture of the person Anya used to be.

This reaches a fever pitch when she sets a spider demon loose on a group of fraternity boys who played a cruel prank on a young woman. The resultant carnage not only makes Anya question her own actions but puts Buffy in the unfortunate position of having to potentially kill one of her former allies.

At its core, 'Selfless' is pure fan service. Not only do we get to see Buffy and Anyanka duke it out in spectacular fashion, but we also get a flashback to 'Once More With Feeling', complete with a brand new song and some fun little cameos.
