1. Carnivale
This may rise some eyebrows. However, the incredibly well-made HBO series Carnivale looks, in retrospect, like a smash hit when it comes to freakshow-set dramas, after the botched attempt at using such a setting in the fourth season of American Horror Story. Lasting only two seasons, Carnivale was a show that often moved at a snail's place, but was completely unique in the television landscape, and sadly, there has been little to nothing like it since. Centering on an escaped con who joins up with a traveling carnival in the dust bowl era South of the U.S., Carnivale featured a cast with the likes of Nick Stahl, Clea DuVall, Michael J. Anderson, Toby Huss, and Clancy Brown that was consistently great week in and week out. Making it far different than the norm, it kept its protagonist and antagonist separate for the entire first season, featuring two almost entirely isolated storylines that began to move closer together as the show progressed. These two figures, forces of light and darkness, would be central figures in what could very well be Armageddon in the form of a nuclear bomb - but who would triumph would be lost to cancellation. Sadly, the cost of producing the show, combined with numbers that weren't nearly high enough to justify the expense, saw Carnivale get the axe - but it has withstood the test of time. A revival could give viewers a final season, and HBO is in a much better place today, thanks to Game of Thrones, than it was during Carnivale's original run a decade ago. Agree with our choices? Which shows would you like to see revived? Let us know down in the comments.
