10 More TV Sitcom Characters With Shockingly Dark Backstories

1. Frank Reynolds - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Oh boy, here we go!

Always Sunny could put any of its characters on this list - hell, Charlie Kelly nearly topped the last one. However, it's time to shine a light on the lunacy that is Frank Reynolds.

Frank's life got off to the wrong start right away, as he spent his childhood years in a terrible "nit-wit" school. This was, in his own words, a time when science was "real crude," with the kids locked inside windowless rooms and hosed down daily.

He was deeply outcasted during this time, with his only companion being a fellow student who was half-human, half-frog. However, unbeknownst to Frank at the time, he was The Frog Kid, as he'd developed the alter ego to cope with the isolation and stress.

Frank eventually got out and, after some time, founded a nightclub with his brother, Gino. But that all went tits-up after he shot a member of the Black Panthers and hid out in Colombia, where he lived in squalor and became addicted to cocaine.

He eventually rose to the heights of the business-world and made a somewhat loving family (although the jury is still out on that one). But, damn, his backstory could honestly be described as a horror show.
