10 Most Bizarre Commercials Ever
6. Panasonic - Star Wars
George Lucas makes phenomenal movies. He’s responsible for not one, but two of the most iconic film franchises of all time in Star Wars and Indiana Jones. While the Star Wars prequels faced some criticism over Lucas’ complete creative control, it’s undeniable that he’s a fantastic filmmaker. So when Panasonic hires him for a series of ads, you’d think he’d make some commercials for the ages.
To be frank, he did not. Thank God he doesn’t have any speaking roles in Star Wars. The commercial is just him in a cornfield, for absolutely no reason, talking about how much he loves to dream. As he talks, sketches of Yoda, Darth Vader and other Star Wars favourites appear on the screen. Again, for absolutely no reason. Occasionally he waves some wheat around like Theresa May in her wildest fantasies. And you’ve guessed it: there’s absolutely no reason why.
The cringiest part comes when two little Ewoks take him hand in hand and guide him towards more Star Wars characters. Then they all just stand around for a bit, chatting about wheat, probably. Its the Jar Jar Binks of commercials, this one.
