10 Most Bizarre Commercials Ever

5. Cadbury’s - Drumming Gorilla

I mean just... what exactly was the point? Cadbury’s is by far Britain’s biggest selling chocolate, and since this commercial was simply for the classic Dairy Milk brand rather than a new bar, they didn’t really have much to say. ‘Please still buy our chocolate, it tastes like chocolate’ doesn’t exactly inspire anything.

But quite why they went with a gorilla playing the drums to Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight is anyone’s guess. The core idea was to move into more entertainment based advertising, to get people talking, and they certainly accomplished that.

The commercial was directed by Juan Cabral, the man responsible for the brilliant Sony Bravia adverts with the bouncy balls down the hill and exploding paint in a tower block. His attention to detail is present again here, with the gorilla given greying fur and a gold tooth to look more like a weather beaten rock star. Still an entirely bizarre concept, though.

Following hot on the heels of the gorilla was spinning trucks, weird twitching eyebrows and dancing clothes, all of which were only slightly less bizarre than this hairy drummer.
