10 Most Bizarre Doctor Who Moments

9. The Doctor Beats Robin Hood... With A Spoon (Robot Of Sherwood)

Doctor Who
BBC

The Doctor has too many quirks to mention, and chief among them is that they're a big fan of spoons. The Seventh Doctor often played them like musical instruments, while the Thirteenth Doctor even used one while constructing her sonic screwdriver.

Possibly the weirdest use of a spoon though has to be in Series 8's Robot Of Sherwood, where the Twelfth Doctor used one in lieu of a sword while battling Robin Hood - that's the actual, real Robin Hood.

And in fact, he doesn't just battle him - he beats him, fair and square.

It's utterly ridiculous of course, and it doesn't make a lick of sense that the Doctor can beat Robin Hood with an ordinary spoon, but fortunately, the episode is aware of how silly this situation is, wisely dialling up the comedy with a Pirates Of The Caribbean-inspired score, and some over-the-top acting from Peter Capaldi.

In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, Capaldi even channels his Malcolm Tucker days by subtly flipping the bird at Robin before their fight begins.

Very smooth, Mr. Capaldi. Very smooth indeed.

Robot Of Sherwood is a barmy episode that doesn't take itself too seriously in the least, and this sequence is the perfect embodiment of that.
