10 Most Bizarre Doctor Who Moments

6. Space Pig! (Aliens Of London)

Doctor Who
BBC Studios

When Russell T Davies revived Doctor Who in 2005, he wisely made the show accessible to both children and adults, combining dark stories and political undertones with bizarre aliens and ridiculous comedy.

Fans who criticise the Moffat era for having a childish sense of humour seem to forget that Series 1 is chock-full of the stuff, from Mickey being eaten by a wheelie bin, to the Doctor's odd gift of "air from my lungs", to yes, the farting Slitheen.

But arguably the most wonderfully bonkers moment in the entire series has to be the space pig from Aliens Of London, which, on the one hand, is one of the weirdest images to ever grace the show, while also being way more adorable than it has any right to be. Just look at its cute porky face! And its little spacesuit! N'aww.

Watching this piggy run around on its hind legs while flapping its trotters is a truly unusual sight that only Doctor Who could conjure up. Russell, the harsh git, then has a soldier gun the poor thing down, almost like he knew how much we all liked this little guy.

Farewell space pig, you ungodly, yet strangely lovable creation.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
