3. American Horror Story: Asylum NorEaster
Although the American Horror Story series is mostly notorious for its utterly out-of-its-tree plotting and set pieces, and is designed more to freak out and repel the audience than actually scare them, a moment must be taken to mourn the passing of dear Shelley, an allegedly nymphomaniac resident of Briarcliff Manor, the asylum of the title. Attempting to run away from the asylum, Shelley is caught and brought to the hidden laboratory of Dr. Arden, the administrator. In typical AHS style, physician Arden is really a Nazi war criminal who experiments on the inmates and mutates them into feral creatures that prowl the forests outside and prevent escapes. Go ahead and read that again. Well wait here till you get back. Arden, clearly not willing to be typecast as a specific kind of crazy, attempts to sexually assault Shelley, who has the chutzpah to not only fight him off, but to mock his unnaturally small and deformed penis at the same time. Unfortunately, Shelleys triumph, such as it is, is short-lived. When she awakens, shes told that she has been blamed for the escape attempt and that everyone thinks she got away so no one will be looking for her there. Desperate, Shelley promises Arden anything if he will just let her walk out. At this wording, careful viewers probably began murmuring "no no no no" to themselves and possibly attempting to negotiate with God, but of course to no avail, as Arden whisks back the sheet to reveal that he has amputated her legs. This is the most chilling thing to happen to poor Shelley, but Ardens not done with her, experimenting on her and mutating her until she is removed from his laboratory and, dying, is euthanised by the Monsignor via strangulation.
