4. Harrison Wells Is The Reverse-Flash (Sort Of)

Eobard Thawne's futuristic speedster is considered one of comic books' all-time greatest supervillains, so when the Reverse-Flash - or the 'Man in the Yellow Suit' as he was referred to - showed up in The Flash's first season, fans were both excited and intrigued by the possibility of seeing him come to life.

However, the mystery involving Harrison Wells and his connection to the villain made it appear as if the writers were attempting to convince us that he was the villainous speedster instead of Thawne. And, for most of the season, that's exactly what it looked like. That is, until it was revealed that Eobard Thawne had indeed arrived from the future, killed Barry's mother and, when his speed was depleted, stole the body of Harrison Wells in order to ultimately allow himself to return home.

This alteration didn't just work; it complemented the rich comic book origins that were already there for the character, as they paired really well with - and enhanced - The Flash's beginnings, giving fans a nail-biting mystery to unravel over the course of 23 episodes.

Furthermore, it provided the show with one of its greatest characters because, even without the Reverse-Flash, the Harrison Wells persona has become a larger-than-life entity in and of itself - with the show introducing multiple versions of the character from the multiverse. And it probably wouldn't have worked without the absolute brilliance of Tom Cavanagh.
