10 Most Cringeworthy Doctor Who Moments From The 60s

9. Morton Dill - The Chase (1965)

As much as we love Peter Purves as Steven Taylor, the part he played which won him that role is somewhat...less loveable. In episode three of The Chase, the time travelers end up on the Empire State Building (or a mock-up of it, anyway), where they briefly meet a country bumpkin named Morton Dill, the broadest stereotype that '60s Who will ever do. While Peter Purves' performance impressed the producers (try saying that five times fast), it's difficult to sit through. Many of us fans prefer to simply fast-forward through this part so we can get to the good stuff - such as Purves doing a much, much better job as Steven in episode five. Besides, no one gets exterminated in this segment - not even Morton, who really, really deserves it.
