9. How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother was huge during the years it aired, and fans all over the globe were captivated by the ongoing love story, as Ted, the main character, narrates to his children the story of how he met their mother. Every episode showed a crucial moment in his life which would eventually lead him to meet the love of his life, A.K.A. the children’s mother.
With that in mind, I think you can imagine the disappointment that came when we were told that Ted’s wife and true love had actually passed on. Even worse, after she passed Ted had went on to pursue his on-and-off love with Robin, showing us that this huge “true love” of his was replaced by the woman who had been a big part of the series from the start, and who Ted had always had feelings for.
Personally, I wasn’t expecting a grand, happy ending but after over 200 episodes building up to how he met this woman, most of us thought it would become one of the most romantic stories ever, and not end up with her passing and him shacking up with his other true love.
A note to writers - don’t plan too far ahead.
