10 Most Disappointing TV Shows Of 2017

5. Sherlock

Sherlock started declining in Season 3, and continued that slide with the Christmas Special The Abominable Bride, which was great until it stopped pretending to be Victorian and became a total mess.

Those warning signs should've been clear ahead of Season 4, but the trailer for the latest run of episodes promised something different. The show was going darker, looked refocused and re-energised, and the indicators were good. Plus, these episodes come around so infrequently it's difficult not to get excited.

But then they aired, and it was a reminder of where the show left off, rather than what had been in Seasons 1 & 2. The Six Thatchers was a middling return, turning from a Holmes & Watson detective show into a James Bond-esque espionage drama centred around Mary.

The Lying Detective fared better, with some actual detecting and a truly creepy turn from Toby Jones, but that goodwill was lost in the finale, The Final Problem, which piled dumb plot twist upon silly narrative turn to the point nothing made any sense.
