10 Most Disappointing TV Shows Of 2017

6. 13 Reasons Why

Unlike a lot of shows here, 13 Reasons Why wasn't being massively hyped months before its release on Netflix, but it did start garnering it in the week or so before it dropped. That only intensified post-release, when it became the most tweeted about series of the year.

There was (and is) a lot of conversation to be had around the series, which sees a teenage girl commit suicide and leave tapes for her classmates outlining the part each played in her life, but it's not necessarily a positive one.

The series has a solid cast, some interesting direction, and it does get people talking about important issues, but it doesn't do enough with those. Its handling of suicide is mixed at best, with ideas of victim blaming and revenge fantasies, with little focus on mental health or Hannah Baker herself.

Outside of those topic-driven issues, though, the show has a few flaws in both setup and execution: the idea of Clay not listening to the tapes exists only as a plot device, and feels overly contrived, and this in turn makes the show feel too long and repetitive.
