10 Most Disappointing TV Shows Of 2018
4. Legion
Legion's first season was a mind-bending trip through the head of David Haller, a mutant with schizophrenia. Although not focused too much on plot, it worked wonders as a character study of a very different kind of superhero, while still having enough of a narrative thread running through it.
Season 2 very much sticks to the same visual style, and even more of Noah Hawley's unique sensibilities. Indeed, it's those that the show lives and dies on, really. Hawley is a wonderful creator, with an imagination few can match, but that's allowed to run loose here and it means the series gets away from him in a sense.
The series simply cannot keep up with the multitude of ideas he has spinning around his head, meaning that while there are a number of WTF moments and great visuals, it doesn't really function as an actual TV show. It's like a magpie, flitting from one shiny new object to the next, rather than focusing on the one in front of it. This all culminates in an unjustified (and potentially unjustifiable) finale, but even before then, the second season was a beautiful mess.
