10 Most Disturbing American Horror Story Episodes

3. “Checking In” – Season 5, Episode 1

American Horror Story Smouldering Children

Season Five of American Horror Story ushered in a slew of new cast-members, and with them, a whole new kind of horror for the series. This premiere episode launches viewers into the deep end with reckless abandon – murder, vampires, and some less-than-desirable sexual encounters.

Detective John Lowe investigates a series of cold-blooded murders in the City of Angels – this is the vehicle upon which Season Five’s journey rests. The murders that Lowe investigates are cruel and perverted, involving a couple who had been tortured whilst having an affair, and a pair of brothers who had been disembowelled. Although, believe it or not, these aren’t the freakiest moments of the episode.

At this season’s titular Hotel Cortez, one heroin-addict gets more than he bargained when he rents a room to shoot-up. The addict is attacked by a fleshy “Addiction Demon”, who proceeds to savagely rape him with a drill-bit dildo. This scene is sickening and should genuinely be avoided if you’d rather live your life free of that unpleasant picture.
