10 Most Disturbing Game Of Thrones Episodes
9. Winter Is Coming (Season 1, Episode 1)
Few opening episodes have nailed their colours to the mast quite as firmly as the very first episode of Game of Thrones and, for that reason it is one of the more memorable and distressing episodes.
Whilst there were arguably more shocking episodes to come after this one, this set the bar pretty high and demonstrated to audiences right from the off, just what kind of show this was going to be.
For the most part, this is a relatively calm episode, but what makes it so disturbing is that sense of darkness lying beneath the surface. We're introduced to all the key players, particularly the Starks, the Baratheons, and the Lannisters. Whilst things seem relatively amicable on the outside, there is an evident power struggle between these Houses, something that is crucial in the show from this point on.
What cements this however is in the closing moments of the episode. We see a young Bran Stark climbing a tower, where he stumbles across siblings Jaime and Cersei Lannister having sex.
This seems shocking enough on its own, but what follows is Jaime noticing Bran and deciding the only course of action is to push him out of the window. Feuding families, incest, and attempted murder of kids. And this is only the first episode! Buckle up...
