The incestuous relationship between Cersei and Jaime Lannister was (understandably) one that caused controversy throughout the eight seasons of Game of Thrones, however, there is one particularly memorable episode that many viewers considered to cross a line. And for Game of Thrones to cross a line, you know it has to be something bad!

In this episode, Jaime and Cersei are in mourning for their son Joffrey, who was poisoned on his wedding day. As they talk, Jaime makes an advance on Cersei who dismisses him. In frustration, Jaime persists and seemingly assualts Cersei, next to Joffrey's corpse. To complicate matters as well, in the source material this moment is very much consensual, but this is not something the scene effectively conveys.

This episode seemed to suggest that Jaime took advantage of Cersei in a moment of extreme grief and vulnerability, making it even more controversial. Sexual violence is always going to be a difficult topic to deal with, but it was somehow made even worse by the fact it took place right next to the body of their dead son.

This episode quite rightly received heavy criticism from fans and critics who felt it was needlessly exploitative. It is an uncomfortable one to watch without a doubt.
