10 Most Disturbing Game Of Thrones Episodes
3. The Dance Of Dragons (Season 5, Episode 9)
Whilst you might think you'd be desensitized to the amount of death in GoT, there are still some unifying moments that rock you to your very core again and remind you that this show really doesn't take any prisoners!
In one of the most shocking episode of the whole series, we see Stannis Baratheon sacrifice his own daughter, Shireen, under the instruction of the Red Woman, Melisandre.
Melisandre knew there to be power in "kings blood" and devotedly followed Stannis, believing him to be the one chosen by the Lord of Light. When Stannis' army found themselves facing defeat against the Bolton family forces, Melisandre convinced Stannis that the only way to ensure victory was sacrificing Shireen.
Much of the episode leads you up to this point, and throughout you will find yourself urging Stannis to see sense and realise that this is not the way to ensure victory. Watching this episode is like watching a car crash happen in slow motion, and being powerless to stop it makes it all the more disturbing.
Whilst fans know to expect horrifying events in this series, nothing can really prepare you for seeing Stannis go through with the unthinkable and murder his child. Shireen screaming for her Father as the flames get closer to her is something that chills you to the bone just to think about.
