10 Most Disturbing Twin Peaks Moments
5. BOB Crawls Over The Sofa
BOB, Bob, or killer BOB is a TV villain of the highest calibre, terrifying, sinister and thankfully rarely seen. He inhabits the body of Leland Palmer from a young age, forcing him to abuse his own daughter and wreak terror in Twin Peaks. After Laura Palmer's murder, the anonymous killer is still on the loose, “He is BOB, eager for fun, he wears a smile, everybody run…” says Mike, one time ally of killer BOB. The denim clad demon is played by Frank Silva, originally a set decorator on location, spotted by Lynch when he was accidentally caught on camera.
In the second episode of the second series, as Maddy is left alone in the Heywood’s living room, a figure dressed in a blue denim jacket with long, scruffy grey hair appears from the right of the screen - BOB is with us. As he climbs over the sofa, staring with a murderous intent at Maddy, BOB is really staring at us. Practically shattering the fourth wall, he comes straight towards the camera, as if he will crawl straight from the screen, like Sadako from Ring, into our very own homes.
No riddles, no clues, no abstraction: BOB is the evil within us, he inhabits our minds and bodies and forces us to commit unwilling acts of extreme violence for the purposes of entertainment. Lynch is holding up the mirror to the audience, we let him in, we pay the price.
