10 Most Emotional Avatar The Last Airbender Moments

This entire sequence deals with Aang's response to losing his best friend. When encountering the sand benders who stole our favourite sky bison Appa, Aang is consumed with rage, and begins to threaten and attack them. Eventually, he enters the Avatar state, and is only pulled out when calmed by Katara, who holds him with tears in his eyes.

This moment is excellent for many reasons. Firstly, there are again small details sprinkled throughout to add an extra punch to the scene. For example, what drives Aang to further fury is finding out Appa was muzzled, showing just how much respect Aang himself treats his furry friend that muzzling him is the final blow.

Additionally, the moment of Katara helping is significant, as it displays how important the connection between the two has become that she is willing to risk her own safety to help him. Furthermore, it's the first time we see Aang brought peacefully out of his dangerous, chaotic lack of control in the Avatar state.

The combination of large emotional payoffs and small details make this scene incredibly powerful.
