3. Jake Renounces His Dad - Captain Peralta
Jacob Peralta has the mother of all daddy issues. His frequent mentions of his father, Captain Roger Peralta, make it clear that he harbours many issues with him. Leading up to meeting him, it became clear that Jake both idolises and hates his dad, and thus, seeing this go down between them was cathartic and heartbreaking.
Throughout this episode, Jake helps his father clear his name in a drugs case, and it seems Jake is finally getting the quality time he always wanted with his dad, albeit with some crime chucked in. He ends up cracking the case and saving his father from jail, but after Peralta Sr cancels on their post-name clearing celebration, he decides to go and confront him.
You find out that Roger essentially used his son, and as soon as he was done, planned to fly back out, leading to Jake finally admitting that he won't wait around for him to be a good dad anymore. He tells Roger, point-blank, that he's a "pretty crappy father" and that he won't make excuses for him from now on.
It's a great moment for Jake and led to a moving scene.
