In Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts, Shirley goes into labour just as the study group take their anthropology final. Because of a race "kerfuffle" going on at Greendale, they cannot drive her to the hospital, so she has to deliver her baby on Greendale's campus.

The birth of Shirley's son is certainly heartwarming, but the episode's emotional highlight comes from the study group coming together to help their friend. Each member of the group is able to help Shirley by doing what they do best - Abed brings in his knowledge of child delivery, Britta takes action and helps with the delivery process, and Jeff gives an inspiring speech encouraging her to do so.

Even Chang is helpful, distracting Shirley with crazy stories about Chang babies. When the study group come together, they can accomplish something great and help their friend. It's also sweet that, after everything, Shirley names her baby Ben after Chang.
